2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

When I first saw pics of Jaguar’s XF, I was a little deflated. While the grill gives me a vague Jag vibe, I don’t think the front end is nearly aggressive enough. Right now, only real estate agents and retirees unconcerned with resale value drive Jag sedans. The XF was supposed to be hot enough to make young professionals who’d otherwise opt for an Audi or BMW drop their iPhones. I wanted to see something bold. Something that screamed vicious. Something I’d notice from a half-mile away. And with all due respect to Jaguar design director Ian Callum, for me, it’s just not there. Now, in all fairness, there hasn’t been a Kitty which looks as good from the front as it does from the back since the mind-bendingly gorgeous E-Type, and the hindquarters of the XF are dead sexy. Bottom line is, I wanted to love this car. Jaguar is one of my favorite marques—I own a ‘78 XJ6L—and since I knew how much the company has riding on it, I wanted the XF to be wicked. And it is. I loved it.

Jaguar: Next XJ “closer to Bentley than BMW”

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

The current-generation of the Jaguar XJ sedan is a perfectly capable car, if a bit boring on the eyes. Jaguar’s design language had always been daring and beautiful, but until the current XF appeared, had lately been stuck in a rut and seemed to be producing endless copies of itself. No longer, as the brand, now under new Indian management, looks to move its flagship XJ upmarket to take on the likes of Bentley according to David Blackhall, the managing director of Jaguar Land Rover in Australia. If the XF is akin to a BMW in Jag’s current line, the next XJ will distance itself as it moves up to cater to the fickle and always fashion-conscious upper crust. Considering how much we like the new direction Jaguar is heading with the XF, we look forward to seeing what the company is capable of with its range-topper, which should debut in the next 12-18 months. So, will it wear a Daimler badge?

THE ALL-NEW JAGUAR C-XF

Challenging convention and setting its own rules, the new Jaguar XF fuses the style and performance of a sports car with the refinement, space and sophistication of a luxury saloon. This is the beginning of a new era for Jaguar.

The new Jaguar XF: a dramatic expression of a bold new Jaguar design language, with a driving experience that exceeds expectations created by the striking appearance: relaxed and confident, with outstanding ability and control.

Resolutely true to the Jaguar philosophy of creating Beautiful, Fast cars, the Jaguar XF goes further, adding a new dimension to the marque. The four-door XF has the visual excitement of a coupe, but room inside for five adults to enjoy an interior wholly contemporary in style yet uniquely Jaguar.

Jaguar XKR-S

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

The Jaguar XKR-S coupe is the fastest production XK to date. Powered by Jaguar’s acclaimed 4.2litre V8 supercharged engine, it has been developed for the true Jaguar enthusiast. It is faster and more agile than the XKR, taking the Jaguar sports car experience to a new level, whilst retaining the refined, dynamic excellence and crafted luxury that is unique to Jaguar.

Sharing the XKR’s highly advanced lightweight aluminium body architecture, the high performance of the Jaguar XKR-S is made totally accessible by the enormous reserves of the 4.2-litre all aluminium four-cam supercharged V8’s 420bhp (SAE) and 560Nm of torque.

With recalibrated engine management, the Jaguar XKR-S reaches an electronically limited top speed of 174mph (280kph) - 19mph (30kph) faster than the XKR. This additional performance is made accessible by improved aerodynamics (reduced drag and lift) and unique suspension set-up.
